Has China's Green Dam Burst?

Chinese officials had previously stood firm in their decision to enforce the Green Dam requirement, but then China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced on Tuesday it had decided to delay mandatory installation of Green Dam, according to Reuters . Researchers at the University of Michigan found that Green Dam regularly restricted access to Web pages containing words related to Falun Gong — a semi-religious movement that has been branded a cult by the Chinese government. Protests against Green Dam also came from prominent Chinese figures like Ai Weiwei — the architect of the Olympic “Bird’s Nest″ stadium — who asked his Twitter followers to boycott the Internet for a full twenty-four hours on July 1. CNN reports that despite the Chinese decision to have Green Dam either installed on the computer or included as a CD-ROM with machines sold after today, many PC makers were not going to be able to meet the deadline.

The iPhone 3GS Popularity Wars

Every Apple (or AT&ampT) store that I went to, save for the company’s flagship operation in Palo Alto, California, was completely sold out of the black editions of the phone. Only 23 stores in the nation are sold out of the black or white edition of the 32GB phone. Double that number and you’ll get the number of stores sold out of some version of any 16GB phone–46 stores out of 210, or 22 percent. It’s difficult to get an accurate representation of preference due to the inability of the 32GB models to really sell out in huge quantities. Take these napkin estimates for what they’re worth–if you want to be in the popular club amongst iPhone 3GS owners, a white 16GB version of the device is your ticket. The iPhone 3GS Popularity Wars Thanks to the release of Apple’s iPhone 3GS availability utility, we can get a glimpse into which versions of this newest device are selling out like crazy.

iPhone 3GS “the gold standard for smartphones”

I continue to hang in on a wing and a prayer but don’t plan to spend any more money on a phone upgrade while my basic service is so lousy. For the iPhone, I keep USB cord and plug into a notebook to charge it while I using the computer. Funny how everyone bashes AT&T for having exclusive rights to the iPhone, I’m sure others had a chance to bid on it and passed. The iPhone sounds and looks like a great investment, but those of us who have had AT&T before know that their service is not compatible with the iphone. I have had the iphone for years, upgraded when needed to, the coverage is better than or equal to other. It isn’t a matter of government interference, AT&T outbidding the others, or Apple’s scheming… it’s just a reward to AT&T for being international in its scope of strategizing, and their decision to deploy the technology that the most cellphones in the world use.

US Government Blocks Imports of Sharp TVs

The exclusion order , which is subject to review by the U. Sharp has not yet seen the full ruling so hasn’t made a final decision, Nakayama said, adding that Sharp TVs remain on sale as normal in the U. The ITC exclusion order upholds an earlier decision by an administrative law judge that one Samsung LCD patent was violated by Sharp, but it overturns the judge’s finding that Sharp violated a second Samsung patent. iPhone 3GS provides the “best smart phone experience”

The iPhone 3G S (the S stands for speed) is a more subtle upgrade compared with last year’s launch of the 3G. But if your contract is expiring or even if it’s not, there are a lot of reasons to make the jump to the iPhone 3G S, which sells for $199 and $299 for 16-GB and 32-GB versions. The iPhone 3G S sports an improved 3-megapixel camera that shoots video, features auto focus, and allows you to adjust the focus, exposure and white balance by tapping on objects in the screen. The thing that got me was the ability to edit and trim videos by just grabbing the ends of a laid out video reel and adjusting where your clip starts and stops. The software, which is also available for earlier iPhones and the iPod Touch, includes a universal search feature that allows you to search across your e-mail, contacts, calendar events, notes, applications and iPod content.

Will TomTom's iPhone App Herald the End of One-Function Devices?

Game studios are starting to incorporate iPhone games into their long-term strategies, and all manner of media publishers from the The Wall Street Journal to People magazine are putting out their own branded apps. By all accounts it’s a promising future for multifunction devices, but with every new iPhone and Palm Pre that comes along, it becomes clearer that the days of the one-function gadget are coming to a close. The iPhone 3GS addresses many of the complaints that inspired jailbreakers to hack the iPhone — except a couple key ones. Apparently, the pre-orders and first-day orders of the 9. Amazon’s site included some owner reviews of the DX, with some concerned about the $489 price, but many were ecstatic about the larger screen. DTV Transition Sparked Calls but No Major Outages, FCC Says

About 30 percent of the calls concerned the operation of digital converter boxes that many viewers of over-the-air broadcasts needed to connect to their TV sets. Most of those calls were resolved when help-line agents instructed TV viewers to “re-scan” their converter boxes in order to find the new digital TV signals, the FCC said. Verizon Wireless and some other mobile operators, which acquired licenses for the former TV frequencies last year in a nearly US$20 billion auction, objected to the delayed transition at first but later agreed to the postponed date. Friday’s transition was expected to bring TV for cell phones to 15 more markets, according to Qualcomm, which operates the Flo TV network through its MediaFlo subsidiary.
